Super Deduction Deadline – Possible Action Required to Claim a Tax Deduction for Super Contributions in FY 2024

If you made personal superannuation contributions during the 2024 financial year, please be aware of an important step required to claim a tax deduction.

To be eligible to claim a deduction for these contributions, you must lodge a Notice of Intent to Claim form with your super fund on or before 30 June 2025.

Important things to note:

  • The contribution must have been made during the 2024 financial year (i.e. between 1 July 2023 and 30 June 2024).
  • The Notice of Intent to Claim form must be acknowledged by your super fund before you lodge your 2024 tax return, and no later than 30 June 2025, whichever comes first.
  • Failing to lodge this notice in time means you won’t be able to claim a tax deduction for the contribution.

Most superannuation funds allow you to lodge this form online using your personal superannuation account login.

The ATO also has a standard form you can complete and provide to your superannuation fund. This can be found here: ATO Notice of Intent to Claim
