This month’s issue is about slowing down, focussing on what you’re best at, and seeking mastery.
In a world that rewards speed and constant hustle, it’s easy to fall into the trap of doing more, chasing every opportunity, and spreading yourself too thin. But true success – both in business and leadership – comes from disciplined focus.
By slowing down, focussing your efforts on what you do best and committing to mastery of these things, you create a foundation for sustainable growth, long-term impact, and a competitive edge that’s impossible to replicate.
This month, we explore how slowing down can actually accelerate progress, sharpen your strengths, and position you for greatness.
So, without further ado, let’s hop right into it…
This week, we have dived into Cal Newport’s latest book, Slow Productivity – a refreshing and radical shift in how we manage work in an era of constant busyness.
As a follow-up to his brilliant Deep Work (a must-read, by the way), Newport challenges the traditional hustle mindset, arguing that our relentless obsession with speed and efficiency is driving us straight into burnout.
Instead of glorifying the never-ending to-do list, Newport introduces a smarter, more sustainable approach – “slow productivity.”
From the book:
Lately, we’ve been reflecting on Jim Collins’ concept of “best at” from his renowned Hedgehog Concept, and its power in shaping lasting success.
In Good to Great, Collins challenges us to go beyond simply knowing what we’re good at. Instead, he asks:
“The real question is not, ‘What are you good at?’ It is, ‘What can you be the best in the world at?'”
This isn’t about being a jack-of-all-trades. It’s about identifying that one strength or capability that sets you apart – the area where you have the potential to be the absolute best. This focus forms the first piece of the Hedgehog Concept alongside passion and economic engine.
When you pinpoint what you can truly excel at, you lay the groundwork for long-term, sustainable success. It’s not just about recognising strengths—it’s about identifying where you can outperform everyone else. And once you’ve found it, the real work begins: the relentless pursuit of mastery.
Imagine a company that discovers its greatest strength is in customer service. If it channels all its energy into becoming the best in the industry – obsessively refining and improving that skill – it gains an unbeatable competitive edge. The same applies to individuals: the more you double down on your core strength, the closer you move from being good to being truly great.
The challenge? Staying focused.
In a world that glorifies multitasking and doing more, Collins reminds us that real greatness comes from going deeper, not wider. Mastery demands saying no to distractions, resisting the urge to spread too thin, and committing to continuous learning and improvement. It means pushing past where you are today and always raising the bar.
So, what’s your “best at”?
Once you define it – and commit to refining it – you’ll find that success isn’t just about what you achieve. It’s about the deep fulfillment that comes from doing what you were truly meant to do.

By now, you’ve probably realised that this newsletter isn’t just about sharing random business insights or the occasional interesting tidbit.
Our aim is much bigger than this. We’re about building a world-class library of knowledge – a resource designed to challenge, inspire, and equip business leaders like you to master your craft.
The question is: are you ready to lean in, apply what you learn, and take your business to the next level?.
We’re not interested in dabbling, in surface-level advice, or in simply going through the motions. We’re in the relentless pursuit of mastery. Every month we’re focused on delivering the best tools, insights, and coaching items to help our clients build businesses they love – businesses that energise them and create the life they truly want.
At its core, mastery is about depth, discipline, and unwavering commitment. Part-timers do something when it’s convenient. They may have talent or knowledge, but they lack the drive to go beyond what’s comfortable.
Now, imagine this:
Would you trust them? Would you expect excellence? Of course not. Because excellence isn’t part-time – it’s a full-time commitment.
The same principle applies in coaching, business, and any field that demands mastery. Part-timers might give decent advice, but they lack the focus, intensity, and deep understanding required to drive real, lasting success.
What separates masters from everyone else is how they approach challenges, learning, and growth. Part-timers shy away from discomfort. Masters lean into it. They see setbacks as lessons, challenges as opportunities, and improvement as a never-ending pursuit.
Take Olympians, for example. They dedicate every day to perfecting their craft. Yet, at the last Olympics, an Australian break-dancer competed at the highest level – despite only training part-time. While that’s impressive, it highlights a key point: if ‘Raygun’ had trained full-time like the world’s best, how much further could she have gone? The answer is clear.
Lately, we’ve spoken to business owners working with part-time coaches – people who juggle coaching alongside another business or job. They’re friendly, they mean well, and they give what they believe is good advice. But here’s the hard truth: they’re not masters. They’re not fully invested.
Someone said to me recently, “Everyone’s a coach nowadays.” And sure, in today’s world, many people slap a “coach” title on their LinkedIn profile. But the real question is:
🔥 Do you want a coach who’s part-time? Or do you want someone who is FULLY committed to mastering their craft? Someone who is FULLY immersed in the world of business?
At the heart of our coaching philosophy, we are all-in. We don’t just practice – we practice deliberately. We study, refine, and push ourselves to be better every day. We seek out new techniques, learn from the best, and invest deeply in our own growth—because that’s what it takes to be world-class. And it’s why our Go4Growth Program has been so popular.
So, when you’re choosing who will guide you on your business journey, ask yourself: Are they dabbling, or are they dedicated? Are they giving advice, or are they mastering their craft? Have they actually run and grown a business, employed people, signed leases, had success, and failures; or are they coming from a place of pure theory, rather than practice?
We believe mastery is the only path to real, lasting success. And we’re here to help you build a business that excites you, fuels your energy, and gives you the life you truly want – because that’s what mastery is all about.
