The Growth Leader – Volume 8

We hope you’re Planning, Growing & Succeeding!

In the fast-paced world of growing and scaling an SME, clarity and ownership are everything.

This month’s issue dives into three powerful ideas every business leader needs in their toolkit: the mindset of High Agency, the strategic value of Brevity, and the timeless business wisdom of Dan Sullivan – mentor to some of the world’s top entrepreneurs.

These aren’t just concepts – they’re catalysts. If you’re serious about building momentum and making better decisions, faster, this one’s for you.

So, without further ado, let’s hop right into it…

High Agency

Are you living life on your terms – or just reacting to it?

This month, we’re imploring you to discover – like we have – the powerful concept of High Agency. A mindset that separates those who make things happen from those who wait for circumstances to change. This isn’t about hustle or blind optimism – it’s about developing the mental posture that allows you to challenge assumptions, solve impossible problems, and take ownership of your outcomes.

In a world filled with constraints, high-agency individuals don’t just accept the default path – they create new ones.  Whether you’re leading a team, building a business, or navigating a career crossroads, this read offers a powerful reframe that could change the way you think about obstacles and opportunity.

If you’ve ever felt stuck, limited, or like you’re waiting for permission this article is for you.

The Power of Brevity – Lessons from Churchill

This week we came across a memo from Winston Churchill, written in August 1940, called ‘Brevity’.

Even during World War II, Churchill asked his staff to write short, clear reports—something we could all learn from today.

Churchill’s four rules for better communication:
  1. Keep It Short: Reports should be short and focus only on the key points.
  2. Use Appendices for Details: Complex details can be put in an appendix rather than in the main text.
  3. Be Direct: Avoid flowery, bureaucratic language. Use simple, conversational phrases.
  4. Consider Brief Notes Instead of Full Reports: Sometimes a quick summary is better than a long, full report—details can be explained in person if needed

The Wisdom of Dan Sullivan | Transform your Business with these 10 Principals.

Dan Sullivan – the OG of business coaching and trusted advisor to entrepreneurial heavyweights like Peter Diamandis and Joe Polish – has been dropping gold for decades. His insights have shaped the thinking of hundreds of millionaires and top performers worldwide.

After diving into his work, we’ve pulled together 10 game-changing insights that have the power to completely reshape how you lead, grow, and scale your business.

  1. Always Be The Buyer
Whether you’re selling or negotiating, always position yourself as the buyer. In sales, get clear on what you want and seek out those who fit your criteria. When selling your business, know your non-negotiables and approach it as if you’re buying the deal.

  2. Wanting What You Want
Understand that the reason you desire something is simply because you want it. This clarity is vital for defining your goals and motivations.

  3. 10x is Easier Than 2x
‘It’s easier to raise $1,000,000 than it is $100,000′. Thinking in terms of 2x often leads to working harder and longer, but aiming for 10x forces you to think differently and more innovatively.  As Tim Ferriss is quoted,

  4. Who Not How
This shift in mindset makes problem-solving more efficient, as someone else likely already knows the solution. ‘Who can solve this?’, when faced with a problem, instead of asking, ‘How do I solve this?’ ask,

  5. The Ceiling of Complexity
‘What got you here will not get you there. Growth occurs in stages, or S-curves. When progress stalls, it’s often because you’ve hit a ceiling of complexity. Remember:

  6. Eliminate The Idea of Retirement
According to Sullivan’s ‘My Plan For Living To 156’, retirement was a concept created for political reasons when the average lifespan was much shorter. Reframe your mindset to view work as a lifelong pursuit. ‘My Plan For Living To 156’ According to Sullivan’s

  7. The ABC Breakthrough
Identify activities that irritate, bore, or drain you (A), those that are just okay (B), and those that fascinate and motivate you (C). Delegate or outsource A and B activities to focus on C.

  8. Who Do You Want to Be a Hero To?
Answering this question helps you find your purpose, choose your niche, and become useful to others, which ultimately leads to rewards.

The book: Who Do You Want to Be a Hero To?

  9.  Unique Ability
‘Become the best in the world at what you do, keep redefining what you do until that is true’, and ‘Do what feels like play to you but looks like work to others’ Naval Ravikant’s quotes capture this well:

  10. The Gap and the Gain
Unhappiness often comes from living in the gap between where you are and where you want to be. Instead, focus on your gains and how far you’ve come to find happiness.

Dan’s body of work is powerful, and I hope there’s something inspirational for you there.
